3 Amazing Wonders of Congo: Car Rental Congo.

As the team of experts at Car Rental Congo having explored the magic DR congo in deep on various adventures, there are things that are recommended to all travelers visiting Eastern congo not to miss as they can not be found anywhere else in the world.

We have Ranked Eastern Kivu as the most visited destination in the entire country of the democratic republic of congo at low prices compared to the Kinshasa side.

When it comes to gorillas, DR Congo is the home to both the mountain gorillas & Eastern Lowland Gorillas. Look no further than selecting Congo for a gorilla safari.

In order to track the mountain gorillas in the Virunga National park, one has to obtain a gorilla tracking permit prior to travel and car Rental Congo Sarl does offer such services to travelers that have selected to book Transport and accommodation with Us.

The Gorilla trekking permit costs $400 for the mountain gorillas in Virunga or Eastern Lowland gorillas in Kahuzi biega.

Start Points for Gorilla Treks in Congo

  1. Virunga National park it begins from Jombe, Kibumba, and Bukima patrol posts
  2. Kahuzi Biega National park begins the Tshivanga visitor center which is the park headquarter.

Trekkers are led by the park ranger who is usually armed for security purposes. The hiking may take several hours depending on where the gorillas spent their previous night. When they wake up in the morning, they begin moving starting from their nest to search for fruits, roots and leaves according to season. Trekkers follow these trails until they get to where they are. It’s not easy to know in advance how long you will walk to find these great apes.

Facts About Gorillas in Virunga National Park

The mountain gorillas are found in Virunga national park. This park has 3 sectors and these are The Northern sector. This is bordered by Uganda and the defining feature here is the Rwenzori Mountain which is found over 5000 meters. The peaks of this mountain are snowcapped (this is one reason why it is also called the snowcapped mountain ranges of the Rwenzori). In the central section is also the Lake Edward, the Ishasha River valley and the plains of Bwindi. This section has a number of wildlife which includes buffalos, elephants, topi’s among others. The Southern sector is best known for the Mountain gorillas. They are mainly found at the base of the Mikeno Volcano which is also a dormant Volcano found at 4380 meters.

This park is surrounded by dense forests which also make it ideal for numerous species of monkeys and chimpanzees to survive. The measures include comprehensive monitoring and evaluation, community education, and the dedicated services of the wildlife rangers.  About 10 gorillas were lost in the Virunga national park due to the chaos, murders, and civil wars that took place but the government and they are doing their best to offer the best security to both the local community and the tourists. This has reduced most risks and thus increase the number of visitors.

The Mikeno Sector of the park has several groups and these include Jomba, Bikenge, Bukima, Gatovu, Kibumba, and Rumangabo groups. Bukima group has 9 different families of gorillas that have been habituated and these include Bageni, Mapuwa, Kabirizi, Nyakamwe, Rugendo, Humba, Lulengo, Munyaga, and solitaires.

Below is the description for each group.

Bageni 3 0 10 2 7 9 31
Mapuwa 3 1 6 3 6 4 22

During the sunny season, the gorillas tend to move further into the forests in search of food. This makes it a long journey for the tourists who are doing the gorilla trekking to finally find the gorillas. The park, in conjunction with the government and ICCN, has resolved to buy more of the surrounding land from the local people who own land near the park, to plant more bamboo shoots and trees so that even when the sunny season is on, the gorillas wouldn’t go so far into the forest looking for the bamboo and other food. read more

Gorilla Trekking Congo, Rwanda & Uganda Tips: Car Rental Congo.

On 1st April 2021, the Virunga National Park congo was officially opened for travelers to start enjoying the most lovely safari activities of Gorilla trekking & Massive Climbing of Nyiragongo Volcano in Eastern Kivu of Congo.  the re-opening of the Virunga following the reopening of Kahuzi biega in August 2020 has made car rental congo update clients to be observed when on gorilla trekking in Congo and the same rules apply even in Rwanda and Uganda where extra gorilla watching can be enjoyed.

While planning to track the Gorillas, one is advised to book the gorilla permits prior to travel. The Congo gorilla permits for both lowland and Mountain Gorillas costs ($400) per person and these national parks may be visited anytime in the year.

However, Gorilla trekking has some rules and regulations in Virunga National Park and Kahuzi Biega National Park  to be followed during post covid 19 gorilla watching, and these include:

  • Measurement of the Body Temperature
  • Showing the PCR, passport.
  • Gorilla trekking can only take place between 8 am and 7 pm.
  • The minimum age to track is 15 years
  • You are allowed to spend only one hour with the gorillas
  • A maximum of 8 people is allowed to track a specific group of gorillas per day.
  • You are advised to stay 5 to 7 meters away from the gorillas.
  • Carry waterproof & warm gears for the cool conditions within the mountains since it sometimes gets wet within the forest and comfortable walking shoes are of great advantage.
  • Smoking and snacking is not advised during tracking
  • Avoid littering within the forest and keep the trash to yourself
  • Always remain calm– Avoid direct eye contact in case the gorilla charges and stay calm until it moves away.
  • Toilet manners: A ranger will be willing to dig a hole for you and after make sure it’s fully covered.

3 Common mistakes done Gorilla Trekking in Uganda on Self Drive Trips

Mistakes done on Self drive Gorilla Trekking in Uganda: Car Rental Congo.

As its known that Car Rental Congo is offering self drive trip to Uganda and the most exciting safari activity done is gorilla trekking . Gorilla Trekking in Uganda is done Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park. we do offer free gorilla permit booking for travelers that have selected to explore Uganda’s national park on a road trip.

Car Rental Congo team has identified three mistakes done by self drive travelers that have selected to go gorilla trekking in Uganda. When you book your car at Car Rental Congo and your going on self drive trip including gorilla watching, Please take careful note of the mistakes to avoid joining their ranks!

1. Arriving at the wrong park gate
A common (and rather tragic) mistake on the part of many would-be gorilla trekkers in Uganda is arriving at a different part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to what’s on their permit. Bwindi is a large park of 331 km² (128 mi²), and comprises four regions:

  • Buhoma in the northwest
  • Ruhija in the east
  • Rushaga in the south
  • Nkuringo in the southwest

Map of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda
Map showing Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and its four different entrance points
When you book a gorilla trekking permit with Car Rental Congo limited , the team will explain to you the section of your gorilla trekking ( you obtain one for a specific portion). And this can’t be changed. So if you show up in Buhoma with a trekking permit for Nkuringo, for instance, you’ll pay the fine fee of $$150 per person!

2. Arriving on the wrong day
The second common mistake that visitors coming to see mountain gorillas make is rocking up on the wrong day. Permits are issued for specific dates and are non-transferable. This is because trek groups fill up far in advance. Note that there are also no refunds.

3. Not bringing your passport

Visitors must bring their passports on the day of the gorilla trek as park officials check these against permits to ensure only rightful permit holders are admitted to the park. Forget your passport and you may not be allowed into the park! It’s possible you’ll be able to dash back to your accommodation to fetch it, but at the very least that will be stressful. At worst, you’ll miss the trek.

Mistakes like those discussed above are some of the reasons why we recommend you travel with an experienced and reputable tour operator like Follow Alice. We know the in’s and out’s of gorilla trekking super well and ensure our clients don’t go home with any woeful tales like not getting to see mountain gorillas on their mountain gorilla holiday.

Another reason for choosing to book the gorilla trekking permit in Uganda with Car Rental Congo is that its ease to advise you on which sector to visit for the gorillas depending on the travel plan that you have.

KAMPALA — Uganda has been ranked the sixth most popular destination in Africa for hosting international conferences and events in 2019 statistics report released by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). ICCA represents the world’s leading association for global meetings, conferences, and events industry.

The rank is a four-point advancement from the 2018 report where Uganda ranked 10th. Uganda has over the last 5 years ranked consistently in the top 10 African destinations for hosting international conferences and events.

The rankings are based on the number of association meetings taking place regularly, rotating between at least
three different countries and with 50 participants.

UTB CEO, Lilly Ajarova, says Uganda in 2019 hosted 22 association meetings including the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentarians Conference, 8th African Population Conference, Africa Now Summit, 4th African Judicial Dialogue and the 2nd Congress of the AfricanPrimatological Conference; among others all which attracted a variance of domestic, regional and international visitors and contributed to the rankings that currently place Uganda as a top Meeting and Events destination in Africa.

“In 2020, Uganda had organized and was scheduled to host a number of notable conferences and meetings that had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

These included among others; the G77 summit, Africa Climate week, World Health Summit, CBR World Congress, and the AfrAA Conference,” Ajarova explained.

She highlighted that many of these conferences have been rescheduled to take place in 2021 pending confirmation of the dates as the COVID-19 pandemic is examined and travel restrictions reviewed.

“As Uganda continues to grow its MICE industry, the next few years will see our association meetings increase as the world normalizes in the post COVID era,” Ajarova concluded.

Rwanda Reopens Airport in August

July 6, 2020 By blog Comments Off

Rwanda Reopens Tourism, Wildlife Safaris, Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes.

Rwanda has developed mainly due to the efforts of the tourism sector that has been the most foreign exchange earner of the country but COVID leads to the closure of the parks and hotels as they got into LockDown. Car Rental Congo suspended the operation of its car hire services as they were not working but due to the recent news that the Airport of Kigali is opening for international flights to connect to Rwanda. we have opened officially and we are taking bookings.

Re-Open for Flights.

Rwanda has announced that its airports will reopen to commercial flights on 1 August, having shut down to outside visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This move follows its 17 June reopening of domestic tourism and international charter flights.

There are conditions though, including a requirement that all incoming passengers, including those in transit, will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test from a certified laboratory, taken within 72 hours of arriving in Rwanda. For passengers entering the East African country, a second test will be conducted upon arrival, with the results delivered within 24 hours. During this time, travelers will be required to self-quarantine in a designated hotel at their own cost.

Rwanda is known as Le Pays des Mille Collines (Land of a Thousand Hills) thanks to its many mountains, including the majestic Virunga volcanoes in the northwest. Hidden among the bamboo forests are some of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas, and Nyungwe Forest National Park protects extensive tracts of mountain rainforest and is home to many primates. All tourism activities, including primate trekking within Rwanda’s national parks, have now resumed in the country with enhanced COVID-19 prevention measures.

Car Rental Congo: Welcoming visitors back is important to Rwanda as tourism is a key contributor to the economy as most of the travelers use flights to connect to the land of thousand hills. Why is Transport a problem in DR Congo

July 3, 2020 By blog Comments Off

Transport in DR congo – Car Rental Congo; 4×4 Car Hire in Central Africa.

Traveling in Africa can never be easy and simple however there are some parts of Africa that are ease to get transportation services like East Africa, South Africa where there are self-drive options like self-drive around Lake Victoria but when it comes to Democratic republic of congo it is a quite hard and unique experience that can’t be compared to East Africa & South Africa.

Provinces in DR congo

Before the Colonists came to DR congo, it was initially organized into 22 districts. Ten western districts were administered directly by the main colonial government, while the eastern part of the colony was administered under two vice-governments: eight northeastern districts formed Orientale Province, and four southeastern districts formed Katanga. In 1919, the colony was organized into four provinces: Congo-Kasaï (five southwestern districts), Équateur (five northwestern districts), Orientale, and Katanga (previous vice-governments). DR Congo got its independence and it was rearranged into 25 provinces which are all served by car Rental Congo that include Kinshasa, Ituri Province, Kongo Central, Haut-Uele, Kwango, Tshopo, Kwilu Province, Bas-Uele, Mai-Ndombe Province, Nord-Ubangi, Kasaï Province, Mongala, Kasaï-Central, Sud-Ubangi, Kasaï-Oriental, Équateur, Lomami Province, Tshuapa,Sankuru, Tanganyika Province, Maniema, Haut-Lomami, South Kivu, Lualaba Province, North Kivu, Haut-Katanga Province.

The Most known and developed is Kinshasa, North Kivu, South Kivu, Tanganyika, Ituri, Haut Katanga provinces that hold minerals and tourism activities.

Modes of Transport in Congo

DR Congo four modes of Transport are Air, Water, Rail, and Road transport but the most used are three that is water transport to those communities close to river congo, air for the domestic flight available yet road transport is mostly used for those traveling in Cities.

Road Conditions in DR congo.

Ground transport in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has always been difficult. The terrain and climate of the Congo Basin present serious barriers to road and rail construction, and the distances are enormous across this vast country. Furthermore, chronic economic mismanagement and internal conflict has led to serious under-investment over many years.

The transportation network is of crucial importance to Congo for travelers to get around from one province to another considering the size of the country.  Congo’s generally poor transportation infrastructure is a major factor in its economic underdevelopment, backed up by a congo river that has no clear water floor in Africa. Check on the Congo River Expeditions ( navigable from Banana to Matadi, Kinshasa to Kisangani, Obundu to Kindu, and Kongolo to Bukama.) But when planning to get around by road from south to the last point, then it’s difficult that why we failed to develop the clear travel around the Congo river. Travelers that wish to visit DR congo are advised to rent 4×4 Car rentals only due to the terrain of the roads.

Roads in South Kivu province

The Roads in Bukavu are paved and the areas are safely visited by tourists that be heading to Kahuz Biega National Park that is known to the home for the Eastern Lowland Gorillas, Travelers are advised to use Rusizi one border to connect to Rwanda. Car Rental Congo offers the best car hire services for travelers visiting Bukavu city for projects or Tourism on short & Long term projects in local Communities around Lake Kivu.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has fewer all-weather paved highways than any country of its population and size in Africa — a total of 2250 km, of which only 1226 km is in good condition. To put this in perspective, the road distance across the country in any direction is more than 2500 km (e.g. Matadi to Lubumbashi, 2700 km by road).

Choosing a rental car in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya & Tanzania

Rent the biggest car you can afford if you’re traveling for more than a few days. The vastness of the country means you are going to spend many, many hours in the car and it is more than worth it to spend a little extra for some comfort. The tinted windows mean your luggage is not too visible in the trunk and we had plenty of legroom during the trip.

Consider a 4x 4 if you are tempted to go off-road. Car Renta Congo offers various types of 4×4 fleets alongside saloon cars that are two-wheel-drive like Toyota Vitz, Premio that are used on City tours. The Smallest recommended 4×4 fleet is the Toyota Rav4 due to the poor roads that exist in parks for wildlife watching and primate trekking like Gorillas in Uganda, Rwanda.

East Africa Driving Etiquette

Gx with Rooftop Tent RentalDriving is on the left-hand side in EastAfrica., there are countries that drive on the left hand and those are Uganda, Rwanda Kenya, and Tanzania yet for Rwanda, South Sudan & Burundi they drive on the right hand. However, clients going to drive along Lake Victoria will only pass through the left-hand countries.

When driving on a single lane road move to the left into the hard shoulder to let cars pass. This can be quite counter-intuitive as a European driver but it was a common occurrence and caused us to sweat profusely when it happened on the brow of a hill!

If you wish to pass a slower moving vehicle indicate to the right and the car in front will typically move in when possible. check for special offers on Car Rental Congo

Climbing lanes are often available as the East African roads are quite hilly and there are lots of large trucks and lorries. Use them to pass trucks and slow-moving vehicles when going uphill. If you are moving more slowly than the traffic move into the left lane to let traffic overtake.

Once you pass another driver a flash of the hazard lights suffices as a thank you. You’ll usually be greeted by a friendly flash of their headlights. It’s a friendly gesture so don’t be alarmed when it first happens!

Honking the horn is a definite no-no except in an emergency.

Watch out for the stop signs! Being used to driving in the US and Europe the stop signs on the main roads through the towns took us by surprise. Be sure to come to a complete halt at the stop sign and give way to cars coming onto the main road.

A good GPS is essential. using an offline GPS app (Osm And navigation) which is recommended to be installed on our cellphones and, on occasion, used the data on the sims.

Double-check your route before you start and have a general idea of the route before you set out each day. This is especially important in the eastern parts of  East Africa. Sometimes the GPS suggested off-road conditions because the distance was shorter but don’t be tempted by the shorter predicted times as the roads can be horrific!
